Harry Potter Day

Park Hopper battle plan from Coronado Springs → Universal. Best ride times, Hogwarts Express strategy, must-try food + dessert popups with real photos.

Family setup: Park Hopper tickets. Goal = maximize Hogsmeade + Diagon Alley with kids ages 9, 6, and 2. Use Hogwarts Express both directions. Mobile order food in the Universal app when available.
STEP 1 • GETTING THERE

Coronado Springs → Universal

There is no Disney↔Universal shuttle. Best option for a family of 5 is rideshare.

Best optionUber / Lyft XL or Comfort (request a larger vehicle for 5 + stroller/day bag)
Distance / time~12–14 miles • usually 20–35 min (can be 40–50 in bad I-4 traffic)
Typical costRoughly $30–$55 one way depending on surge / vehicle size
PickupCoronado Springs lobby / rideshare pickup point (follow resort signs or ask bell services)
Drop-offUniversal CityWalk / main park rideshare area (not Epic Universe — different campus)
Return planRequest rideshare from CityWalk in the evening. Leave buffer if Graham is melting down.
BackupMears / taxi is more expensive but predictable if rideshare surges hard
Leave Coronado by ~7:00–7:15 AM if you want a strong rope-drop / early entry shot at Hagrid’s. Download Universal app + link tickets the night before.
STEP 2 • BEST-TIME DAY PLAN

Minute-by-minute strategy

6:30 AM

Wake + quick hotel breakfast

Eat something real at Coronado (or grab portable snacks). Fill water bottles. Stroller ready.

7:00–7:15

Rideshare to Universal

Head straight to Islands of Adventure entrance (Hogsmeade side first).

Rope drop

Hogsmeade first strike

1) Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure (longest line of the day — do this first or use single rider if adults split).
2) Flight of the Hippogriff (great for Ellen; quick win).
3) Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey (single rider line if kids are short/skip or one adult waits with Graham).

~10:00

Butterbeer break in Hogsmeade

Frozen Butterbeer for kids (less “beer-looking,” more dessert vibe). Photos on the bridge / Honeydukes window.

10:30–11:00

Hogwarts Express → Diagon Alley

Park Hopper required. This ride is part of the magic — do it both directions if energy allows.

11:15–1:30

Diagon Alley block

Escape from Gringotts first (single rider helps).
Then wander: Ollivanders (if wait isn’t brutal), Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes windows, Gringotts money exchange photos.
Lunch at Leaky Cauldron (mobile order if available) or snacks + later ice cream.

1:30–2:00

Dessert stop: Florean Fortescue’s

Butterbeer soft-serve is the move. Tap food cards below for photos.

2:15–4:30

Afternoon flex (kids energy dependent)

Option A: Hogwarts Express back to Hogsmeade for a second pass / show / shopping.
Option B: Stay USF side for easier stroller walking + shade + CityWalk exit later.
Skip VelociCoaster unless Gwen is tall enough and the group has bandwidth.

4:30–6:00

Second dessert / souvenir window

Chocolate Frogs, Bertie Bott’s (look don’t eat the weird ones), one more Butterbeer if needed. Don’t overbuy — cruise week is coming.

6:00–7:30

Dinner + exit

Leaky Cauldron / Three Broomsticks leftovers or CityWalk easy dinner. Rideshare back to Coronado. Pack cruise bags tonight.

STEP 3 • RIDE PRIORITY

What to ride, when, and how to beat lines

1. Hagrid’s MotorbikeFirst thing. Worst line later. Single rider if adults split. Skip if Graham meltdown mode is already active.
2. Flight of the HippogriffFamily-friendly coaster. Great for Ellen. Do early while you’re already in Hogsmeade.
3. Forbidden JourneyIconic. Can be intense for little kids. Use single rider or one-adult standby strategy.
4. Hogwarts ExpressDo Hogsmeade → Diagon Alley late morning. Return trip optional but magical at dusk.
5. Escape from GringottsDo soon after arriving Diagon Alley. Single rider helps. Story + effects kids love.
Maybe laterSpider-Man / other IOA classics only if legs and naps allow. Don’t sacrifice dessert/HP vibe for random filler rides.
With a 2-year-old: Build in a stroller nap window after lunch. Shade > FOMO. One adult can rotate on bigger rides while the other does gentle land exploration.
STEP 4 • FOOD + DESSERTS

Must-try eats (tap any card for a photo)

Photos match the labels. Tap a card to enlarge.

Savory lunch picks (no mismatched photo): Leaky Cauldron or Three Broomsticks — Fish & Chips, Shepherd’s Pie / Cottage Pie, Bangers & Mash, Ploughman’s platter. Pair with Pumpkin Juice or Butterbeer.
Dessert priority: 1) Butterbeer (frozen or cold) • 2) Butterbeer fudge • 3) Chocolate Frog • 4) Bertie Bott’s for laughs.
STEP 5 • DAY-OF BAG

What to bring from Coronado

  • 🎫
Tickets in Universal appLinked the night before. Screenshots backup offline.

  • 🧴
Sunscreen + hatsNovember can still bake mid-day in queues.
  • 🍼
Stroller / carrier planStroller for distance; carrier helps in tighter shops.
